It detects analytes by measuring differences in refractive index between a sample flow cell and a reference flow cell, allowing quantitation of compounds that do not absorb ultraviolet light or fluoresce, such as sugars, alcohols, and various polymers. Its updated thermal control system helps maintain a steady baseline during long analytical runs. Positioned at the terminus of the HPLC flow path, the RID-20A continuously monitors the differential refractive index signal and transmits that data to the system controller and software for integration into chromatographic results.
